Liminal Space means threshold. It is not a physical space but an analogy of a bridge, doorway, a gateway, a tunnel to describe it. It is the uncomfortable space where it is a bridge to learning.

It is important for young learners of today to know about liminal space. To embrace the unknown which can set them up for life-long learning and life skills. These feelings that they may be in a ‘stuck place’ is normal. As Meyers, Land and Bailie describes “most significant aspects of learning lies not in the outcomes of learning, but in the process of learning” (Meyers, Land and Bailie, 2009, p.xiii). As teachers we need to understand the learning process and decide how best to facilitate it. Students need to know that learning is a process and it doesn’t happen instantly. With all the challenges they have to get through in life, it actually shapes who you are.
